Venice has some of the best gelato we have ever tasted! No trip to Italy is complete without trying authentic gelato – it is basically a right of passage. We’ve come up with a list of what we think are the top 25 places to get the Best Gelato in Venice.
1. Suso Gelatoteca
Calla della Bissa, 5453
suso.gelatoteca.it
Open 11:00am to 11:30pm
Focus on Food Intolerances & Dietary Restrictions
Founded in 2012 by a local Venetian family, this is as authentic as you can get! One of the many goals that the owners of Suso set out to accomplish is to focus on food intolerances and dietary restrictions. They want anyone visiting their gelateria to have the ability to try gelato. For that reason, they offer many options, such as gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan. Their other goal is service. Every time you go, you’ll be greeted with a friendly smile and impeccable service.
Suso’s ingredients are all fresh and locally sourced from local markets and surrounding towns. They pride themselves on not using any artificial colours or ingredients in any of their gelato or sorbets. As for flavours, they are continually creating new ones and have well over 25 different flavours to choose from at a time. Their flavours should satisfy the pickiest of gelato connoisseurs. Considering Venice is extremely expensive, it is nice to see that a scoop of gelato at Suso is only €1.80. However, the reality is that you’ll end up paying more for a few scoops!
The best part about Suso is that it is an Instagrammer’s dream. They are conveniently located only two minutes from the Rialto Bridge but also have all kinds of cute canals nearby. This is where you need to go if you are looking for the ultimate Instagram photo in Venice! You can get your three scoops of gelato in a cute cone with a Suso wafer topper and make your way to the Rialto Bridge for the ultimate shot!
In our opinion, Suso has some of the best gelato in Venice (and all of Italy)!
2. Boutique del Gelato
Salizzada S. Lio 5727
Open 9:00am to 1:00pm
Try the Sorbet!
Only a short, 5-minute walk from the Rialto Bridge, it’s definitely a spot worth checking out. Boutique del Gelato is a popular place amongst the locals, so you know what they are making has to be good! If that’s not enough – they were also featured in Netflix’s Somebody Feed Phil! We recommend watching the episode on Venice (season 2, episode 1) before your trip. Not only will it get you excited and inspired, but it will also give you several restaurant recommendations! And if you don’t have a trip to Venice planned, you’ll have one booked before the end of the episode!
Boutique del Gelato is proud to produce gelato and sorbet with no artificial products. The gelato is what you would expect from a place like this: super creamy but light. The nuts and the fruit for their desserts are all sourced from the local market, so those are a must-try. If the fruit is in season, don’t miss out on trying one of their sorbets.
3. Gelateria Alaska
Calle Larga dei Bari, 1159
Open 11:00am to 10:00pm
Unique Flavors
While this gelato spot is a little out of the way, you will not be disappointed when you get there. The owner, Carlo Pistacchi, is extremely passionate about his craft and is always pushing the envelope when it comes to different types of flavours. Don’t worry, all your standard flavours are there, but there are some unique ones, such as ginger or artichoke. If you’re feeling adventurous, they are worth a taste! The flavours are also ever-changing because Carlo sources everything from the local markets.
4. Grom Gelato Venice
Salizada S. Giovanni, 5801
grom.it
Open 9:00am to 11:00pm
Plenty of Locations, Hours Vary
In 2002, two friends came together to make gelato the way it used to be made, and they succeeded. With four convenient locations in Venice, there is no reason for you not to try Grom.
They choose to use only the freshest ingredients without adding any aromas or colouring agents. The taste and the colour of the gelato are solely from the ingredients in it. Due to the fact they are using fresh ingredients, no two batches are ever the same, which makes everything you try unique! At the beginning of every month, they update their website with new monthly flavours, so make sure to check them out. Also, their gelato is gluten-free.
Aside from having some of the best gelato in Venice and throughout Italy, you can find Grom around the world in Dubai, Los Angeles, New York, Hong Kong, and more!
5. Gelateria il Doge
Dorsoduro 3058/A
Open 9:00am to 11:00pm
Award-Winning Gelato
The owners of Gelateria il Doge have one goal in mind, and that is to create ice cream for the young and the young at heart. They’ve been nominated and were awarded the Best Gelato in Venice. They were also the first-ever “take-away” shop in Venice.
At Gelateria il Doge, they create all of their gelato from fresh and natural fruits. They’re proud to say they use only the finest ingredients and never use hydrogenated fats and dyes. All of this means that their gelato is some of the smoothest and creamy in the entire city!
Some of their popular gelato flavours are Cream of the Doge (candied orange and chocolate) and all the classics, including stracciatella and pistachio. If you don’t know what flavour you want, just ask the team – they are extremely friendly and will help you out. Also, their gelato is 100% gluten-free, and they do offer a vegan gelato.
