1. Ascensor da Bica (The Bica Funicular)
This is one of the most iconic shots in Lisbon – your trip isn’t complete without a yellow tram photo. We recommend starting at the top of Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo, snapping a few photos with the yellow tram, and then either walking or riding the tram down. When we visited, one of the trams was covered in graffiti, so be sure to wait for the pure yellow one for photos!

2. Sé (Lisbon Cathedral)
This stunning cathedral is the oldest in all of Lisbon; it was built in 1147 and has weathered several earthquakes over the years. Give yourself some time here so you can get the perfect shot with the tram coming around the bend!

3. Rua Nova do Carvalho (Pink Street)
One of our favorite Instagrammable spots in Lisbon is this pink pedestrian street! This street used to be Lisbon’s Red Light District, but today it’s lined with bars and patios. The pink street is the perfect spot to take a break, grab a drink and relax; or, return in the evening and enjoy the lively nightlife. If you’re looking to get a shot with no one in it, you’re best to arrive early in the day.

4. Miradouro de Santa Luzia
Lisbon has no shortage of amazing viewpoints, and this one should be at the top of your list of Instagrammable places in Lisbon. Enjoy postcard-worthy views of the city and Tagus River from this enchanting pergola.

5. Miradouro das Portas do Sol
Just steps from Miradouro de Santa Luzia, you’ll find this balcony perched over the city and Lisbon’s Alfama District. Not only will you find breathtaking views of the city and water, but there’s also a bar/restaurant here.

6. Castelo de São Jorge
Grab a glass of wine and take in the view from Castelo de São Jorge. Not only is this the perfect spot to get some Insta-worthy photos, but you can also explore this historic castle. Here, you can learn more about Lisbon’s history, take a stroll through the gardens, participate in a guided tour, or simply relax at Café do Castelo.

9. Elevador Santa Justa (Santa Justa Lift)
Built in the early 1900s, this lift was designed to connect the lower streets of the Baixa District with the higher Carmo Square. Today, this lift serves as a popular tourist attraction. We recommend taking a photo at the bottom, and then, of course, once you get to the top!

10. Bairro Alto
Bairro Alto should be at the top of your list of places to explore in Lisbon. While during the day this area can seem quiet, it truly comes alive at night. We recommend visiting later in the day to get your Instagram shot with the overhead garland, but plan to stay into the wee hours of the morning enjoying the company of locals and tourists!

11. Museu Nacional do Azulejo (National Tile Museum)
Portugal is known for its incredible tilework and this museum is dedicated to just that! The city of Lisbon is full of lovely tile buildings (which can serve as the background to your Insta photo), but if you can’t find the right one, this museum is the place for you!

Visible from all over the city, the Church of Santa Engrácia, also known as the National Pantheon, is where important Portuguese people are laid to rest. Inside, the church boasts symmetrical design and colorful marble. There’s also a terrace offering panoramic views of Lisbon.

15. Palácio dos Marqueses da Fronteira
This 17th-century palace is home to gorgeous gardens, fountains, and exceptional tile work. If the photos aren’t enough to make you want to visit, the Room of Battles has been referred to as “the Sistine Chapel of Tilework.” Because the palace is privately owned, you can take a guided tour of the inside, or simply visit the gardens on your own.

16. Estação do Oriente (Oriente Station)
Aside from its exceptional architecture, this station is also home to a shopping center, police station, and serves as a transportation hub for Lisbon’s Metro, commuter and regional trains, and local, national, and international buses! Belém is a charming neighborhood, west of Lisbon’s city center along the Tagus River. Some of Lisbon’s most famous historic landmarks can be found in Belém, along with Pastéis de Belém patisserie, known for their custard tarts. Trains depart from Cais do Sodré throughout the day, taking 25 minutes to get to Belém.

When we first arrived in Lisbon, one of the first things we noticed in the distance was the Christ the King statue, reminding us of the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil. The Christ the King statue was inspired by the Brazilian monument after the Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon visited Brazil. In addition to this fascinating statue, this is the best place for views of the entire city of Lisbon!
